In 2025 Davyth Fear invited Cornish speakers to choose one of the 56 short stories by Arthur Conan Doyle about Sherlock Holmes, and translate it into Cornish, using whatever orthography they preferred. When I learned of this invitation, I was surprised to find that 12 of the stories had already been chosen for translation, including my favourites. I chose The Adventure of Charles Augustus Milverton, and treated the translation as a test-bed for a beta version of Kernewek Kemmyn including z, which has been used elsewhere on this website. The exercise of translation I found difficult. Conan Doyle often uses long complex sentences with numerous adjectives. I needed frequent recourse to dictionaries to decide on the best Cornish forms, occasionally creating new words. Cornish is not fully up to the task.
